Alivia Schmidt-Sanders

Alivia Schmidt-Sanders

Assistant Director of Music for Music Education

Alivia Schmidt-Sanders began her role as the Assistant Director of Music for Music Education at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church and School in August of 2022. In this position, she teaches in the Music Education program at the school and in the Musical Journeys program at the parish.

She spent her childhood in Onalaska, Wisconsin and kindled her passion for music education at Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin. In her four years at Viterbo, Alivia pursued and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Music Education as well as Spanish Education. She is committed to providing her students a diverse and global music environment, and her fluency in Spanish and travels to Oaxaca, Mexico and Spain help inform her teaching.

After completing her degree, Alivia decided she wanted to pursue her faith and give a year of her life to the service of God. She enrolled in the Mercy Volunteer Corps and spent a year working at St. Peter's School, a K-8 Catholic School in the Mission District of San Francisco. As a volunteer, she started her own choir, led music at weekly school Masses, was the 7th grade homeroom teacher, and aided school administration. She is incredibly grateful for all that she learned during her year of service.

During her time in San Francisco, Alivia was an active member in her parish by participating in the Young Adult Community and singing at Mass. She joined RCIA last fall and feels so blessed to have converted to Catholicism at St. Agnes Church this past Easter.

In her spare time, Alivia enjoys engaging her creativity, exploring nature, and learning about new ways to take care of the environment. She is incredibly excited to meet the St. Maria Goretti families and their students.
