Respect Life Month Prayer

October is Respect Life Month. It is an important time for us to reflect on our own respect for life, especially human life, from conception to natural death. Pope Saint John Paul II, during his pontificate, frequently expressed grave concern for the growing disregard for human life which we show by our daily choices and actions. From the poor stewardship of the earth’s resources to the unwillingness to “live simply so that others may simply live,” all of our actions have much more far reaching consequences than we usually take time to appreciate. During this month, let us reserve time to reflect and dialogue with one another about our respect for human life. Let us ask God to reveal to us, and challenge us, to truly follow the example of his Son, and the example of the early Christian communities of the New Testament, how we are called as Christians to truly be a witness to a respect for the life God has given this world.

Respect for Life Prayer

Heavenly Father, the beauty and dignity of human life was the crowning of your creation. You further ennobled that life when your Son became one with us in his incarnation. Help us to realize the sacredness of human life and to respect it from the moment of conception until the last moment at death. Give us courage to speak with truth and love and with conviction in defense of life. Help us to extend the gentle hand of mercy and forgiveness to those who do not reverence your gift of life. To all, grant pardon for the times we have failed to be grateful for your precious gift of life or to respect it in others. We ask this in Jesus' Name.
