Volunteer Opportunities & Events

Cambria Mission Work Day

On Sunday, May 19 we will have a family friendly afternoon of work at the Queen of the Americas Mission in Cambria, about an hour away from here. Dcn Dick will depart from SMG about 1 p.m. getting there about 2 p.m. but you are welcome to come when you can. We plan to be home by 6 p.m. We will be getting the church ready for the return of the seasonal workers in June and continue cleaning up the 12 acres of the property.

Please contact Deacon Dick Martin at 608-268-2956 or dick.martin@stmariagoretti.org for directions and more information.

Luke House Community Meal

On the second Thursday of every month, St. Maria Goretti provides, prepares, serves and shares the free community meal at Luke House, 310 S. Ingersoll St. Those who come to rely on The Community Meal Program do so for many reasons – most of them having to do with some dimension of poverty.

Volunteers provide and prepare the food and drop it off at St. Maria Goretti on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. On Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers set up and serve the food, and clean up afterwards. The meal is at 12 p.m. As we are inviting those who use the Community Meal program to share the bounty of our table the volunteers eat with our guests.

If this sounds like something God is calling you to do, either providing the food or/and serving, please contact Barb Tereba at 608-277-0961.

Meal at Catholic Multicultural Center

St. Maria Goretti provides the meal at the Catholic Multicultural Center, 1862 Beld St, Madison, at 11 a.m. to 12 Noon the 4th Sunday of the month. We need donations of food and volunteers to help serve the meal.

Mazzuchelli Care Team Ministry

Care Team Minstry, now under the title of Mazzuchelli Care Team Ministry, is named after the pioneering missionary Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli, who was instrumental in spreading the Catholic faith in southern Wisconsin.

This ministry is a neighbor-to-neighbor ministry that puts our faith into action serving those who are homebound or who live alone and are in need of assistance due to aging or health issues. Team members provide friendly visits and phone calls, offer rest and relief for family caregivers and perform some small tasks for other parishioners in need. The Pastoral Staff works directly with this ministry team’s leaders providing support and guidance. All team members are trained to provide confidential, respectful, compassionate, non-medical assistance.

For more information, please contact Deacon Dick Martin at 608-268-2956 or dick.martin@stmariagoretti.org

St. Vincent de Paul

St. Maria Goretti Conference of St. Vincent de Paul

Our mission is to be the hands and feet of Jesus. No need is foreign, and we are called to seek out the needy around us. To meet the needs of our neighbors, we are involved in many activities.

While we do many collection drives (school supplies, food, blankets) one of the main activities of our conference is to do Home Visits with neighboring families, ensuring they have the basic necessities of a household.
