Scholarship Choral Singers
Scholarship Choral Singers
Scholarship singers are funded positions given to professional level choral singers following a successful audition. These choristers are recruited to sing in The Choral Scholars, a semi-professional choral ensemble. On occasion, scholarship singers are appointed to lead responsorial singing, service music, and, depending on qualifications, may be asked to teach or lead a choral ensemble for additional remuneration. These positions are given during or prior to the academic year. Auditions take place during the first week in September and throughout the year as needed. Positions are held from September through mid-June and may be renewed for successive years if both the choral scholar and the Director of Music mutually agree.
The Choral Scholars perform a wide variety of choral music including, but is not limited to, Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, the choral music of the European choral traditional, and the choral music of the modern church. In addition to their choral singing duties, scholarship singers will be required to perform in up to two group recitals during each choral season without additional remuneration. The parish will award up to eight scholarships per academic year, 2 per voice part (SATB). Singers most familiar with singing in the early music and European renaissance choral traditions will be given preference.
- High level of musicianship and choral singing ability
- Knowledge of choral singing and ability to collaborate with others
- Good communication skills
- Dependable leadership skills
