About Michael Maliakel
Currently playing the lead role of Aladdin, Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway and in his Broadway debut, Michael Maliakel first began his professional career in music as a boy soprano in the American Boychoir.
“I grew up in central New Jersey. My parents both emigrated from India and my brothers and I were born here” says Maliakel in a October 2021 interview with the Broadway Buzz. “My first love was music—I consider myself a musician at heart. Choral and vocal chamber music and piano and theater came into my life a little bit later in high school. I was Skye Masterson in Guys and Dolls. It was the first time that I really could see myself doing [theater] in the future. I ended up going to college initially just for a liberal arts degree and then transferred into an opera program. I studied classical voice and then shimmied my way into the theater world.”
Maliakel first made his entrance into the Broadway world in the national tour of The Phantom of the Opera (Raoul, u/s) and has also starred in many other shows throughout the East Coast. He has also been featured on the television shows Bull (CBS) and FBI (CBS) and has been a featured performer of both classical and staged performances throughout the nation.
