SMG Knights Of Columbus Council is Growing Fast

By Justin Knapp, Grand Knight

This spring, the St. Maria Goretti Knights of Columbus Council #17889 received the Wisconsin State Membership Award from the state Knights of Columbus Council (pictured above). This award is earned for being the fastest-growing council in the state within the last year. St. Maria Goretti’s council began in Spring 2022 and has since welcomed 70 new members. The council also received the “Triple Star Council” Award; this award is the highest honor that a council can be awarded for overall exemplary performance.

Throughout the past year, the Knights have hosted events such as Lenten Fish Fries, Free Throw Competitions with the St. Maria Goretti Catholic School, and Pancake Breakfasts. The Knights have also volunteered time with various community programs such as 40 Days for Life campaign, Luke House meal program, and helping out with winter snow removal at the parish. Through their fundraising events and service to the faith community, the Knights have donated over $7,000 to community causes.

The council meets twice monthly, including a monthly social meeting where men are able to share a meal together, receive faith formation, and grow in fraternity and community. The Knights of Columbus council is continuing to welcome new members who are looking to grow in fraternity, serve the community, and become stronger Catholics. Membership is open to any man over the age of 18. If you are interested in joining, email kofc@stmariagoretti.org or visit our website.
