Big Accomplishments and New Adventures
Summer always seems to fly by – I’m guessing, with everything that goes on during the summer, that our families would agree. I believe the same can be said for our family of faith.
Although you have probably heard the phrase “more is not always better,” it is my belief that with all of the prayer opportunities, ministries, and events offered at St. Maria Goretti, grounded in the faith of Jesus Christ, it is far better to have more of that which helps us to grow in love and knowledge of our faith. I’ll touch on just a few of the things we had going on this summer and some of the exciting things we have coming up.
The Installation Mass of the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Madison, Bishop Donald Hying, was truly the highlight of the summer, and moreover, a highlight of St. Maria Goretti’s 60 year history. No other parish in the Diocese of Madison has ever hosted an Installation Mass for a Bishop and it would rarely happen in any other diocese. It was an incredible honor and privilege to host such an event and to welcome Bishop Hying to our diocese and our parish. Pulling off an event of this magnitude, with such flawlessness, was by God’s grace and through countless hours of hard work and dedication. Much of the success of the event was due to those who spent hours of planning, cleaning, and landscaping, as well as those who volunteered as greeters and ushers, and many others who played an important role. It was truly incredible to witness. I will never forget that event and all those who helped. More importantly, God will never forget it.
After the Installation, parish life continued at a feverish pitch. The staff unveiled a number of projects over the summer. To start, we have a new online giving platform through WeShare. The previous system, which we had for a number of years, lacked the updates and usability to move forward. With any new platform, there may be a few snags, and we are grateful for your patience. Yet, the feedback from those who have already switched over and those who use it to make school payments or register for events have been positive. To echo this success, we are excited about launching our new website in early September.
Recently, we concluded the second session of “Fr. Scott’s Summer Book Club.” One attendee said, “Thank you for putting this on! It was a great opportunity to grow in faith and holiness as a community. The 1.5 hours flew by, and I look forward to the next session.” I hope that you will join us next time and that Book Club continues to grow. Rumor has it that “Fr. Bill’s Book Club” will be next!
Most importantly, no matter the time of day nor the time of year, may we always be focused on Christ, His Life, His Love, and His Truth. We accomplish this through daily devotions – sometimes privately and sometimes communally. For communal devotions, I’m overjoyed to see the continual growth in attendance at Thursday Adoration and Evening Prayer, along with those who attend daily Mass, the Divine Mercy Prayer Cenacle, and pray the Rosary.
Thank you all for your support and patience over these last few months as I continue to settle into life at St. Maria Goretti. Please know of my prayers for all of you.
