Fr. Bill Van Wagner

Fr. Bill Van Wagner

Parochial Vicar

Fr. Bill Van Wagner began as Parochial Vicar at St. Maria Goretti on July 13, 2019. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 28, 2019, by Bishop Donald J. Hying at St. Maria Goretti.

He was born and raised in Madison. He attended Our Lady Queen of Peace Grade School and Edgewood High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy at Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Winona, Minnesota. He attended seminary at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit, Michigan and obtained a Master of Divinity and Bachelor of Sacred Theology.

During his time in the seminary, he had a wide variety of pastoral assignments. He taught catechism and Confirmation classes, visited nursing homes and hospitals, and led a Bible study and prayer group at a federal prison. While in college seminary, he spent his summers working for youth apostolates of the Diocese of Madison Camp Gray and Love Begins Here.

His summer pastoral experiences have been at St. Henry and St. Bernard Parishes in Watertown, St. Mary Parish in Platteville, St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Monroe, St. Clement Parish in Lancaster, and St. Cecilia Parish in Wisconsin Dells.

In his free time, Fr. Bill enjoys listening to and playing music, spending time with his family and friends, watching and playing sports, and attempting to master the art of home brewing.

Serving at St. Maria Goretti is his first assignment as a priest, and Fr. Bill is thrilled to be at such a large and active parish. He loves spending time with the school children and relishes any opportunity to teach about our faith.
