Traveling Chalice

When we see a Chalice and Paten we immediately think of the Holy Mass. Indeed, we are reminded of the great gift we have in the Catholic Church, that we have access to the physical presence of our Lord. Therefore, these sacred vessels become symbols of not only the beauty of God that comes to us, but also the beautiful vocation to priesthood that brings such a powerful Presence into our world. Our parish has been blessed with men who continue to discern such a vocation.

However, we need to remain vigilant, and never ceasing in our prayer for the future of our Church. Remember the words of our Lord: “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38).

To help in this task, our parish is blessed to have a “Traveling Chalice and Paten” that can travel from home to home, all with the intent to encourage families to pray for vocations as a family, and to promote vocations within the family.

As a result, we are looking for families who would be interested in keeping this boxed set in their home for approximately three weeks. The family is asked to say a prayer for vocations each day, and a form is included to capture significant moments while the chalice resides in your home. It’s a wonderful occasion to pray for vocations to the priesthood, and a great “focus item” and teaching opportunity for your children! After the three weeks are up, I will assist in passing it on to the next family.
