Traveling Chalice
I don’t think I’ll ever forget the wonderful experience of receiving my chalice and paten from St. Maria Goretti parish. The day following ordination, during the first Mass of Thanksgiving, it was brought up and presented to me along with the gifts for communion! As long as I use that chalice and paten I will think of this parish who provided it for me, and of the many homes it resided in as they prayed over it - and for the seminarian who would some day receive it. And, I was not the only recipient; as a member of SMG, Fr. Brian Dulli was also blessed with this gift, so that’s two chalices covered by the prayers of people at SMG that are being used! How cool is that!!
We are resuming this practice with a new chalice/paten set, and I’m looking for families who would be interested in keeping this boxed set in their home for approximately 3 weeks. The family is asked to say a prayer for vocations each day, and a form is included to capture significant moments while the chalice resides in your home. It’s a wonderful occasion to pray for vocations to the priesthood, and a great “focus item” and teaching opportunity for your children! After the three weeks are up, I will assist in passing it on to the next family. Would you consider joining the “Traveling Chalice” prayer chain? If you are interested, please contact me at 268-0782, or slip me a note with your name and phone number after any Mass.
Thank you!
Your Parochial Vicar,
Fr. David Carrano
