RCIA candidates welcomed to next phase of becoming Catholic
Nov. 6, 2011
Back to RCIA page.
The main focus of this rite is being signed with the Sign of the Cross, the first sign given in Baptism, of being claimed for Christ.
The young man preparing for Baptism is welcomed into the Order of Catechumens (thus now he is called a catechumen) and those already baptized and preparing to be received into Full Communion with the Church (called Candidates) make public their intent to follow Christ.

Fr. Mike makes the Sign of the Cross on each one's forehead

The Catechumen and Candidates' sponsors make the Sign of the Cross on their ears, eyes, lips, heart, hands, shoulders, and feet as a sign of a new way of life, the life of Christ.

Fr. Mike gives to the catechumen and the candidates a Bible with the instruction to learn to live the Word of God.
