Fr. Mike was ordained May 24, 1974 by Bishop Cletus O'Donnell at St. Raphael Cathedral in Madison; he said his first Mass on May 27, 1974. Fr. Mike has served as associate pastor at St. Henry's Parish in Watertown, was on the faculty at Holy Name Seminary in Madison and was Vocation Director at the Diocese of Madison from 1978-1986. He was Rector at Holy Name Seminary in Madison from 1982-1995 and took a sabbatical at North American College in Rome, Italy, before becoming pastor here at St. Maria Goretti Parish in 1996. Fr. Mike serves on the Priest Presbyteral Council, as Diocesan Consultor, and on the Catholic Charities Board.

Fr. Chad was ordained Dec. 10, 2010, here at St. Maria Goretti. He served as Assistant Master of Ceremonies to the Bishop of Madison through June of 2011 and now is the full-time parochial vicar here at SMG.

Tom began working at SMG as Business Manager and Director of Facilities in July 2000. He oversees business activities, expenses, budget and upgrading and maintaining the parish facilities. Tom also includes installing the smart boards in classrooms and testing the school hot lunch food among his duties. What he says he enjoys most about working at SMG is working with the parishioners and staff, and he mentions the day in April 2003 when the renovations began as a memorable one. My husband, Brad, and I have been parish members since 1983 when we moved to Madison. Our children all attended St. Maria Goretti School. At that time, we were busy with many school activities and I served as Home & School President. I also served as president of the Altar Rosary Society, which existed at the time.

I became the parish bookkeeper in 1998 – what an exciting time it has been for our parish. Brad and I served as co-chairs of the Building our Future capital campaign during 2002-2007.

We feel truly blessed to belong to St. Maria Goretti Parish.

Meg has been the Coordinator of Young Adults/Assistant to Director of Youth Ministry since July 2011. She works with young adults (ages 20s and 30s) and coordinates a variety of programs including social events, monthly meetings, small groups, service, etc. "I do my best to listen to their needs and do everything I can to help them grow in faith and love of God. The best part of my job is meeting all sorts of amazing people (of all ages), but especially the young adults. There is so much faith in this group of people; it’s really amazing to see!" Email Meg

I have worked at nonprofits pretty much my whole career since college, beginning with my alma mater, Michigan State University, where I worked in the university's news office (media relations). I have also done communications work at the state Special Olympics office in North Dakota, and most recently at a state affiliate of a national nonprofit organization that provides arts programming for people with disabilities. As an SMG School parent, I created and designed the web site as a volunteer for the nine years (K-8) my daughter attended school here, then was hired in 2008 to oversee the new web site, which launched in January 2009.

My husband, Mark, and I have been parishoners at SMG for almost 10 years. Our oldest son, Isaac, graduated from SMG in May 2011. Our other two children, Matthew and Clare, still attend SMG. Liz has been involved in Catholic Education for over 30 years. She earned her B.A. from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, a M.S. in Administrative Leadership from U.W. Milwaukee and a Master of Religious Education from Loyola in Chicago, Illinois. Liz started at SMG in 2003.

Ann received her B.A. in Elementary Education and Masters degrees in Education from Edgewood College in Madison. After teaching in Catholic schools for 19 years, she accepted the newly formed position of Assistant Principal at St. Maria Goretti School in August, 2005.

Beth is a lifelong St. Maria Goretti Parish member, having graduated from SMG in 1981. She began working in the School office in 2003 and all three of her children are SMG students.

I have been a parish member since 1994. Four of my five children are graduates of St. Maria Goretti School. I was hired as a part-time employee in the school office in Fall 1997 then became a full time Secretary in Fall 2000. In Fall of 2005 my position became a split allowing me to work as both a school secretary and as a Program Assistant for the Youth Ministry Program.

Although my education and prior work experience were all in the medical field, I truly love my job and feel it is a great fit for me. The opportunity to meet and work with a wonderful group of volunteers, parents and most especially the amazing youth of our parish have been an incredible blessing for me.

I’m originally from Illinois; grew up NW of Chicago in the Hoffman Estates/Schaumburg area. I graduated from Univ. of Illinois in 1982. I moved up to Madison in 2000 and came on staff here in 2001. I’ve been doing youth ministry for 25+ years, and still LOVE it! I have three wonderful daughters. I love being a dad, eating chocolate (especially in the form of Nestle’s Tollhouse Choc. Chip cookies), hiking, movies, building things, cool/unusual toys, national parks, retreats, Mission Trips, and helping teens find and experience God’s amazing love for them. I’m originally from Elkhart, Indiana and grew up in the shadow of the Golden Dome of Notre Dame. I graduated from Edgewood College and hold a Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. I taught Kindergarten in McFarland for 38 years and have been here on staff since 2007. I am married to Joe Kuemmel. We have 3 wonderful sons and 2 fabulous daughters in law. I enjoy traveling, cooking, gardening, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends. The best part of my job is helping our second grade children prepare for and make their First Reconciliation and First Communion. To see the joy and reverence of the children on their First Communion Day and watch parents and grandparents bursting with pride is so touching. It reminds me how fortunate I am to be Catholic and to be here at St. Maria Goretti.

I grew up in a happy, noisy home on the South Side of Chicago, teaching my dolls at first, then my friends’ (long-suffering) little brothers and sisters at our “pretend school,” then piano to neighborhood kids. After earning a B.S. in (I know this comes as a surprise) Education, I returned to Chicago for my first teaching experience at Kenwood High School. I later taught high school in the south suburbs. I developed other hobbies, including sewing and needlework, gardening, and book clubs, and I volunteered in organizations including girl scouts, adult literacy and Religious Education. In time, my husband and I were blessed with three wonderful children: two daughters and a son. Right after the birth of our last child, our family moved to Rockford, Illinois, where I taught 6th, 7th and 8th grades in Catholic schools. We moved to Madison and became parish members in 2006, and I joined the staff here at SMG in 2007. The Religious Education program is an absolute joy to work in. Not only do I love working with Shari, Joe and Maria, I love having the opportunity to meet you, my friends and fellow parishioners. Most of all, I love helping to educate your children in the faith that means so much to me. Shari and I are fortunate enough to share classroom time with your children now and then, and I learn from them; the depth of their faith and goodness inspires me. When you’re near the office, stop in to meet me, and bring your kids—there’s always a lollipop waiting for them at my desk.
